Directed by Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr., the film was released on 12th January amid a clash with Jason Statham’s The Beekeeper. Upon its arrival, the musical teen comedy received decent reviews from critics, and word-of-mouth was also in favor. As a result, the film got a positive verdict at the box office.

Mean Girls had a good start, but afterward, it dropped more than expected. Still, it managed to attain a successful status. Talking about the latest collection update, the film has amassed $71.2 million at the North American box office and $30 million in the overseas market. Combining both, the worldwide total stands at $101.2 million, reports Variety.

For those who don’t know, it is based on the Broadway adaptation of 2004’s Mean Girls. Earlier, the film was supposed to arrive directly on Paramount+, but since the reactions during test screenings were very positive, the makers decided to go with the traditional theatrical release first.

Riding on a cost of $36 million, the Angourie Rice starrer emerged as a commercial success at the worldwide box office. So, the decision to opt for a theatrical release first has turned out to be a wise one.

After its release, Mean Girls held the first spot for three weeks at the North American box office. It was in the first position even in Australia, the UK, New Zealand, and Mexico.
